Ring modulation at its finest, in a considerably small package, powered by a typical 9V supply. All analogue, hand-stamped, with a pure sine wave oscillator, low-pass filtered with class and musicality. These are the requirements of warp speed space travel—a regular occurrence when dealing with Randy’s hardware.

At low oscillator frequencies, Randy creates rich trem/vibe effects, from excruciatingly slow to chopped rhythmic flavours. At higher frequencies, you’ll find thick bells, tuned intervals, and lo-fi synth textures. Experiment with the LPF cutoff and the MIX to reach tones as strange or as subtle as desired.

Expanded CV capabilities allow Randy to control and be controlled by other CV devices. The stereo CV jack is switch-programmable for use with an expression pedal or as a dual-channel CV port. Oscillator and LPF frequencies are both voltage-controllable. The oscillator can also serve as an output, making Randy a stand-alone VCO.

────────────────

THE VOLTAGE-CONTROLLED OSCILLATOR

The VCO generates a low-distortion sine wave.

HI/LO switch: sets range — LO (0.5–45 Hz), HI (18 Hz–2.4 kHz)

FREQ: oscillator rate

SQ/SI switch: square or sine waveform

────────────────

THE FOUR-QUADRANT MULTIPLIER

Ring modulation multiplies two signals, producing the sum and difference of all frequencies. Ideally, the originals are absent, but some bleedthrough may occur, especially at higher gain.

────────────────

THE VOLTAGE-CONTROLLED LOW-PASS FILTER

Second-order LPF after the multiplier affects only the modulated signal. Useful for taming harsh results. LPF sets cutoff frequency.

────────────────

THE INPUT AND OUTPUT SECTIONS

Input buffered by JFET stage (instrument-level ready)

MIX: dry to wet balance

VOLUME: output level (unity ~noon)

True bypass when disengaged

────────────────

THE CV JACK

Default: use with expression pedal (“wiper to tip”) to control oscillator frequency.

Internal microswitches allow expanded CV routing (see Programmer’s Reference Manual).
