This is a 2012 Taylor Fall Limited Edition, one of fewer than 200 made, featuring a European spruce top with Adirondack bracing and beautifully figured quilted sapele back and sides.

It’s a highly versatile guitar that works equally well for gigging and recording—this was my go-to when I needed one instrument that could cover a lot of ground.

Where this fits (important if you’re not familiar with this model):
This is essentially a high-end Taylor in the 800/900 series range, from a limited run that flew under the radar.

I’ve narrowed my acoustic collection down to three guitars that cover the most ground: a Martin Custom Shop 000-18, a top-tier Collings OM3, and this Taylor—which absolutely holds its own alongside them.

Tonally, it sits right between those two worlds. It has the strong fundamental and low-end response of a mahogany guitar, with some of the top-end shimmer and complexity you’d expect from rosewood.

Because of the larger body, it doesn’t compress when strummed hard like the other two can, but it still responds beautifully to a light touch. It records incredibly well and has been my first choice for gigs where I need a wide dynamic range from a single guitar.

If you’re familiar with Taylor’s lineup, this sits well above standard production models in both materials and voicing.

Tone / Playability:
Big dynamic range with fast response. It handles aggressive strumming without compressing, but stays clear and articulate for light finger picking.

The European spruce + Adirondack bracing combination is a big part of that responsiveness—you typically see that pairing on higher-end builds from makers like Collings, Bourgeois, Santa Cruz, and Martin Custom Shop.

Quilted sapele gives it a unique tonal character—somewhere between mahogany and rosewood. It’s slightly less mid-forward than mahogany, with a bit more top-end sparkle, but still warm and controlled.

Condition: Very Good

• No noticeable scratches or dents
• Light fret wear in the cowboy chord area (does not affect playability)
• Professionally repaired center seam crack (2017), cleated and completely stable
