This 2021 steel bodied 12-fret Triolian is remarkably clean with only light fret wear. The action is 2mm at the first string 12th fret, 2.25mm on the low side, perfect for slide or fretted playing. It has a compensated bridge with plenty of saddle height and a removable hand rest for those wanting to palm mute.
I have a 1929 Triolian to compare to and it's remarkable. how alike they are (see picture), even to the point of accurately reproducing the neck profile. Both have the same nicely tapered soft-V profile. It fills my hand without overdoing it.
From The National site:
The original Triolian of 1928 signaled the debut of National’s unique single-cone guitar design. Our Triolian is a faithful reissue of the 1930s W Series classic, featuring a thin-gauge steel body or optional wood body. The guitar is highlighted by flat-cut f-holes, a formed back, and the traditional sieve-hole coverplate. And like the originals, the guitar is handpainted in a two-tone “walnut” brown-and-gold burst designed to mimic the look of wood way back when. But our Triolian is all new and boasts something the vintage versions lack — rock-solid reliability. The maple neck now includes an essential adjustable truss rod under the ivoroid-bound ebony fretboard, which is detailed with inlaid mother-of-pearl position markers. You can select from either the early 12-fret, large-body or later 14-fret, smaller-body version. The classic slotted headstock features vintage-style engraved, open-gear tuners and the timeless “Triolian” shield decal. For more than 90 years, the Triolian has been the choice of country, folk, and blues musicians, and our reissue keeps the music flowing.
