The U.S. Steel (often also called U.S. Metal in its reissued versions) is a high-gain distortion/overdrive pedal from Tech 21’s SansAmp Character series, designed to capture the spirit of modern American amps, particularly the thick, compressed, powerful rectifier-style sound favored in hard rock and metal. It features Level, Drive, Low, Mid, and High controls, as well as a unique “Character” knob that changes the tonal personality across different amp voicings, and includes a speaker emulation for direct use in recording or live PA systems.
