You’re looking at a pair of consecutive serialed CAD E–300s in good cosmetic shape. I bought these from a tracking studio in Nashville about 10 years ago and they have served me well.

If you are here, you probably know exactly what you’re looking at. If you’re unfamiliar, and are curious how they sound, they were designed by CAD as their rival to the top shelf solid state studio condensers of the 90s (read: 87s, etc). As such, they arrived at a design that can only be described as “kinda insane”- a circuit driven by two NiCad rechargeable 9v batteries and given additional power/charge by 48v phantom. There are benefits (clean and clear sound, a figure 8 pattern that sounds especially heavenly, good transient handling, these guys being so proud of their design that they put all their names on the PCB), and there are downsides (the circuit is more complex than a normal mic, and two 9v batteries on the PCB is kind of a weird vibe. Also NiCad batteries are notoriously leaky with age and can cause damage with their corrosion).

To that last point - one of these two clearly had corrosion damage to some of the power traces from a leaky battery when I got it, and was not functional. I had it serviced, the circuit was repaired, and it sounds fine. Recently when preparing to sell I was comparing them back to back, and noticed the repaired one has a slightly higher 60hz ground hum than its sibling. I may have a tech look at it, and will update this listing if/when that can be addressed. In my opinion, it is still quite usable for most sources. Probably not ASMR, though. I am pricing accordingly, though.

Cosmetically, they’re in good shape. The usual slight scratches, dings, etc from being working mics, but no major cosmetic issues.
