Oh man… these are the type of axes that really keep this fun in so many DIFFERENT ways. Being a life long Fender nerd that turned into a player then collector.. obviously when it’s a Fender.. just icing on the cake...right? I love finding these and getting them to the right players or collectors both even when they aren’t built by the GREATEST guitar/bass maker of ALL TIME! lol
This Blonde Beauty is stuck in the most prevalent “transition“ period of our great manufacturing icons timeline. Even more so if you ask me than the CBS transition …that was obviously the changing of the guard “transition” the one I’m referring to is more of an internal quality control and process “transition”. We all know it didn’t change hands again until the mid 80s when Shultz stepped in.
I mention this as OBVIOUSLY this is an earlier body and neck.. the reason I say that is the WEIGHT!! 7.2 lbs.. WHAT?? And folks, that’s COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED!!! To dive in deeper, it has a 1974/75 Neck Plate and 75 neck code or date stamp. Let’s keep going… 2 1972 pots, 1 1973.. so yes boys and girls this is one of “those” grab and go specials…early to mid 70’s the folks at the factory were notorious for “patch working” these incredible axes with parts and surplus around the shop. please hear me cats and kittens…
THIS JEWEL IS ALL FACTORY ORIGINAL !!
From the solder joins to the hardware..pickup leads tape.. finish and late 60’s tolex case.. this is exactly how this axe was born and left the factory..so for neck plate and neck code purposes…this would be a 1975 Strat…nerds like me that factor the 72 pots the ultralight NON mid 70’s 7.2 lb weight.. this one is EARLY 70’s.. no doubt!!! Real talk folks.. I’m leaning to late 60’s early 70’s … body and neck were cut and formed.. I think even received their finishes.. (look in the neck pickup cavity.. the finish was chipped away and a red stamp was added.. can’t make out the name., either an inspector or special order stamp.. either or … F’n nerd heaven!!
The overall condition is remarkable, considering its age. The finish has aged to that oh so unmistakable golden ivory blonde that these do oh so well! Frets are good with tons of life, action is amazing, and you can play this thing for hours and still walk around or get out of bed the next day because your back hasn’t even noticed!!! Bahahahah
It does have it’s fair share of play wear, but it’s honest and just adds to the character this vintage beauty exudes.
This guitar is a special instrument folks. So many things about this beauty scream late 60’s Hendrix’y vibe and feel… and I’m telling you right now.. this one could’ve just as easily had a 4th neck bolt and a vintage trussrod adjustment… It’s so beautifully stuck somewhere in the middle!!! no doubt whoever ends up with this will respect and understand everything I’m talking about the second it hits their hands!!!! Yes, this one MAKES you speak (play) THE TRUTH!!
Thanks for the interest.
