1989 Westone Spectrum I WE1400RD in bright Ferrari Red, and it wears every bit of its story. This one’s a true late ‘80s import shredder that’s lived a life, been worked on, and kept moving. Not a case queen, not pretending to be one either—just a solid, honest player with some quirks that come with the territory.Up top, the low E tuner has been swapped for something that isn’t quite right visually, but it does the job just fine. We dug through the parts stash hoping to land on a proper match and came up empty, so rather than drilling extra holes, we left it as-is. The truss rod cover is gone, and the locking nut clamps are missing, but the important stuff is all there where it counts. The neck is straight, the truss rod works both ways, and the frets have only light wear that doesn’t get in the way.Electronics are all original and surprisingly lively. HSS setup with the mini toggle for coil split gives you more range than you’d expect out of something in this lane, and everything functions as it should. The original Floyd Rose didn’t survive, so it’s been replaced with a newer speedloader version—honestly a nice upgrade if you’re into the convenience of skipping the string trimming routine.It plays fast, sits low, and feels right at home in that ‘80s into early ‘90s rock pocket.
