For Sale: Rare Deagan No. 262 “Artists’ Special” Xylophone (3.5 Octave, F–C)

Offered for sale is a unique, rare, and completely original Deagan No. 262 “Artists’ Special” xylophone. This is a 3.5-octave instrument (F–C), featuring original rosewood bars with their original finish, along with original nickel-plated brass resonators and rack.

As documented in 1930s Deagan catalogs, the No. 262 was designed specifically for professional xylophone soloists. It features wider bars than typical professional xylophones (ranging from approximately 2" to 2 1/4"), producing a notably warm, dark tone that sets it apart from more common instruments of its kind. The rounded bar ends add to its refined and elegant appearance.

Condition:

  • Original finish on bars and keybeds
  • Original felt, insulators, string, and springs
  • Nickel-plated brass resonators in original condition
  • Castor wheels are original and functional but in fair condition and may benefit from replacement

This is a highly collectible and musically distinctive instrument, ideal for performers, collectors, or studios seeking a historically significant xylophone with a unique tonal character.

Location:
Local pickup only in Pittsburgh, PA, due to the complexity and risk of shipping.
