Direct Interface, with Re-Amping, version #3.12

I design and make high end audio, tube guitar amps, mostly custom ProAudio pieces. Your probably wondering why this is version 3.12? I was asked to design a Tube DI for studio use. It kind of became an obsession. My first version had way too much gain using the 6922 and +24dB of gain with very low input headroom was not very good. I was then schooled by a number of musicians that DI are best when they gain is 0dB or less. I changed the design completely for version 2 using a 12B4A tube which has very little gain and a custom CineMag 10K:600 output transformer. It tested well and several people liked it a bunch. Headroom was huge at close to 25Vpp and 8.75Vrms input with out any pad.

But then people explained how they used them and re-amping and I thought. Why not add re-amping circuit in there as well then this peice could do both. Version 3 worked really well and after a few tweaks to get the signal to noise ratio higher and the distortion down with any NEGATIVE feedback and so the version 3.12.

The back panel has the female XLR connector for the re-amping and the IEC and power push button switch.

On the front panel is the PAD switch for -6dB or -12dB, but in most cases leave this in the center for 0dB pad as that sounds best and can pretty much take anything you throw at it. The input goes directly to the THRU output. The re-amping output TS is there as well as an inverted (output- +12dB) TS output. The XLR male connector for the transformer output and the pin 1 grounding switch. The output is true phase.

I have this one available now and a prototype version of this as well.
