The D'Angelico Premier EXL-1 is an affordable, full-size hollowbody archtop guitar in D'Angelico's entry-to-mid-level Premier Series. It draws from the brand's classic 1940s-1950s Excel model designs, delivering warm, woody jazz tones with a big-bodied feel and Art Deco styling.
Key Specs
- Body: Single-cutaway hollowbody, 17" wide lower bout, 3" depth. Laminated spruce top, laminated flamed maple back and sides. 1-ply binding.
- Neck: Maple, set-neck joint, slim C-shape profile (thickness: 20mm at 1st fret, 22mm at 12th). 25.5" scale length, 14" fingerboard radius.
- Fingerboard: Ovangkol with 22 medium vintage nickel silver frets, white pearloid block inlays, 3-ply binding. Nut width: 1 11/16" (Graph Tech NuBone XL).
- Electronics: Single floating D'Angelico (or Duncan Designed) mini-humbucker (neck position) with 1 volume and 1 tone control (500k pots). This setup emphasizes the guitar's natural acoustic resonance and midrange punch without loading down the top.
