Greco Precision Bass PB-420, Made in Japan 1975 – Natural Ash (Matsumoku Factory) – Serial J750672

A very cool mid-’70s Japanese Precision Bass from the Matsumoku factory - one of the most respected builders of that era. This PB-420 is a great example of early MIJ craftsmanship, with its own character and vibe that stands apart from modern instruments.

The bass is in excellent overall cosmetic and technical condition. There are light scratches, small dings, and honest signs of use across the instrument - all consistent with age and giving it that authentic vintage feel (please check photos for details).

The body features a two-piece “pancake” construction, similar to what you’d see on higher-end vintage instruments, and paired with a beautiful ashtray bridge cover, which really adds to the classic look and old-school aesthetic.

Playability-wise, it’s in great shape. The frets show normal wear for its age but still have plenty of life left - no dead spots or dents, and it plays cleanly across the neck.

Sound-wise, this bass delivers exactly what you want from a good vintage P-style instrument - warm, punchy low end, strong mid presence, and that unmistakable old-school Precision character. It sits perfectly in a mix and responds very naturally to dynamics.

Overall, this is a serious vintage instrument with vibe, tone, and history, not just a copy, but a piece with its own identity.

The following work has been done: full cleaning, lemon oil fretboard treatment, pickup height adjusted for balance and clarity, and a fresh strings installed.
