The second-middle sibling in the Qx line - far slimmer and space-friendly than the Qx3, yet much more professional and sophisticated than the Qx21.
8 tracks, which each can record 16 MIDI channels, and 32 "Macros". Macros are basically floating phrases that can be saved independently of a composition and inserted at any point, similar to Patterns - drum patterns or fulls, melodic themes or hooks, etc.
It is reported to have the capability to hold 20,000 notes, though aftertouch, velocity data, etc, will whittle that down. I never even approached full memory, even with all 8 tracks in use.
Only one song can be recorded on the device. To save multiple songs, you need to use TAPE OUT. There is no need to actually record onto a cassette tape; recording and playback are possible using a digital recorder, etc.
Relative tempo changes at any point in a sequence are another pretty cool addition.
This is a really cool device, simple and straightforward (especially by Yamaha's standards), and super low-profile. I'll slot nearly anywhere very nicely.
It's quite handy that all of Yamaha's Qx line features heavy-duty built-in 3-pronged power cords.
