Martin / 1977 D-45
"Only 76 units produced"
1977 is the year of the Martin strike, and perhaps because of this, only 76 D-45s were produced.
Therefore, you can understand that it is extremely rare to find a 1977 D-45 in good condition.
Let's take a closer look at the details of this instrument.
—Top
Made from finely grained spruce.
The grain alone indicates the use of high-quality wood.
The body is adorned with white binding and vibrant abalone shell inlays.
It displays various expressions depending on the lighting.
—Sides/Back
Made from quarter-sawn Indian rosewood.
The brown contrast offers a beautiful color and grain.
The decoration, like the top, features white binding with abalone shell inlay, and even after nearly 50 years, its jewel-like beauty remains intact.
-Center Strip
The multi-colored center strip, a characteristic of the D-45, is made by combining colorful, intricate parts, showcasing Martin's high level of craftsmanship.
Rosette
The area around the soundhole is adorned with white/black multicolored cells and abalone shell decorations.
A testament to the craftsman's skill.
Pickguard
The pickguard is black, but it retains its original finish.
This is evident in the spruce grain pattern that appears depending on the lighting.
This pattern appears as the spruce top wood and the pickguard adhere to each other over time.
In many Martin guitars, the pickguard warps due to shrinkage between the wood and the pickguard material, causing cracks as the wood is pulled. However, while this guitar shows slight lifting due to age, there are no cracks, suggesting it has been carefully used.
Fingerboard
Made of jet-black ebony, the abalone shell hexagon inlays shine brightly against the black fingerboard.
Bridge
The ebony downbelly bridge is fitted with a short saddle and white bridge pins.
Neck
The mahogany neck features a soft V-shape with just the right thickness.
This grip is one of the important factors in producing harmonics.
Head
The headstock, made of Indian rosewood veneer, features a vertical logo (commonly known as a vertical logo).
The logo's font is bold and features a firm bevel.
-Tuning Machine
GROVER 102G is characteristic of this period.
The brilliant gold finish is still present, making these tuning pegs themselves extremely valuable parts.
[Comment from the person in charge: Hoshino]
