Here is a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus in Trans Amber finish. Includes the original hardshell case and "Classic" truss rod cover. Many folks view the time period of the '90s through the early-'00s as one of Gibson's golden eras (sometimes referred to as the Good Wood era). Guitars being built during that period seem to be consistently exceptional, and have developed a great reputation in recent years. This guitar really lives up to that reputation, and is fantastic in every regard. It looks stunning, of course, but is also a great example of how a 25-year-old guitar that has seen plenty of use during that time can still be as solid as ever when it was built extremely well at the start. As much as I like many of the Murphy Lab aged guitars I've played, there is really no comparison to the feel of a guitar that has naturally built up just the right amount of hard-earned character through years of genuine use. You don't have to think twice about bringing this one to a gig or recording session, but it's been treated well enough to still look beautiful in your home when it's out of the case and waiting to be played.

This Les Paul is set up with '10s, and plays very well with comfy action. The neck has a slim-medium C profile which feels great, and a very dark rosewood board that feels smooth to play on. The pickups have strong output and are very nicely balanced. While they're hotter than a vintage, PAF-style set, they're very musical and dynamic. You can get fantastic clean tone out of them, but they really shine with a great overdrive pedal, or by simply plugging straight into your amp and pushing the front end. They really seem to compliment the guitar's natural sustain and resonance. Here are a few highlights:

  • 8.8 lb.
  • Slim-Medium C neck profile with depth measurements of .80" and .89" @ the 1st & 12th frets.
  • 496R/500T pickups.
  • Hand-wired harness w/ new CTS pots and Orange Drop caps. Previous pots included (3 are original to the guitar, 1 is non-original). The original top hat-style knobs were swapped out for reflectors.
  • ABR-1 bridge with stop bar tailpiece.

Condition: This guitar is in good condition overall, showing a moderate amount of play wear, general use and natural aging. Please make sure to look through all of the included photos. This Les Paul has definitely been played, and that's because it's a killer guitar that is hard to put down after you've picked it up! The frets show light wear throughout, but are without major divots or flattened spots that would affect playability. They have plenty of height left and feel great to play on. As for the rest of the guitar, you'll see light surface scratches, scuffs, and some minor impressions/indentations throughout, although the top is pretty clean. There is some buckle rash on the back of the body (upper-middle area), as well as a ding underneath the control cavity cover which is undoubtedly the most notable cosmetic blemish. All of the binding shows typical checking and slight discoloration that naturally occurs with age, and on the fretboard binding edges specifically, there are a couple spots where small bits of lacquer have chipped off. I've never actually felt this when playing, I just noticed it when doing a thorough inspection of the guitar's cosmetic condition in preparation for this listing. Part of one side of the truss rod adjustment nut ("acorn nut") has been shaved down a bit. The guitar came to me this way, and I'm not sure why that would've been necessary, but I want to be clear in saying that this does not affect the functionality of the adjustment nut in any way. It turns smoothly both ways just fine without any issue or resistance, and there is ample room for future adjustment when needed. Lastly, the case shows some aging and wear, as you'd expect, but is in great shape overall and functions perfectly fine.

*Note - Upon receiving the guitar, please let it acclimate to room temperature before opening the case and removing it. It's especially important with nitro-finished guitars to prevent lacquer checking/cracking. As always, when a guitar is being shipped to an area with a different climate, it's best to let it settle in for a few days before having any necessary setup adjustments made (if any) by a competent tech to fit your personal preference.
