Built by Welson in Italy and marketed by Wurlitzer in North America these thin-line Semi-acoustic guitars were the organ / jukebox giant’s effort to getting in on the 60’s guitar boom. The first group of mostly solid body instruments they marketed were built by The Holman Co. in Neodesha Kansas. But not this one. This 7742 came from Castelfidardo, Italy. The Welson Company, the guitar side of an accordion company founded by Orlando Quagliardi in 1921, was one of the first Italian manufacturers to get into electric guitar building. They had an exceptionally high build quality and were considered to be the European Gibson. While that's obviously quite a stretch it is a quality Italian build. This fine guitar is essentially a Welson D2 re-badged for Wurlitzer, is in great condition. A thin-line double-cut semi with an internal block, like a 335, this model has it's original Filtertron style pickups in perfect working order.
All hardware and electronics are 100% original to the guitar and it's worth mentioning that the input jack has an on n off sometimes grounding issue that will need to be addressed if you plan on playing a gig with this one. Also, the Wild setting seems tame instead of..well.. Wild. The switch tip is also damaged as seen in the photo.
The guitar comes with the original hardshell case that has the odd distinction of having the hasps on upside down so keep this in mind when opening the case for the first time. I'm also throwing in a cool piece of case candy, an original Wurlitzer brochure highlighting their guitar line including this one. "What a deal!"
Feel free to reach out with any questions and I'll be happy to respond. Thanks!
