Vintage 1946-1947 Gibson BR-4 Tube Amplifier - Restored and Ready to Play

Here's a Gibson BR-4 amp that has been restored. The BR-4 was a model only offered in 1946-7, just after the second World War. Fender was just starting as a company. The BR-4 was in the middle of the line with a single 12 inch speaker and moderate wattage - probably around 12-15 watts.

The electronics for this amp have been updated with new caps and a 3 prong grounded power cable. The original field coil speaker is included but has been replaced with a conventional Eminence 12 inch speaker. It is easy to swap speakers now if needed. (The electronics have been updated to accommodate this and can easily be swapped back to field coil mode if desired).

The original field coil speaker is included as pictured but is not in working condition.

The two slats in front of the speaker are replacements.

Includes the schematic, as well as the parts removed during the restoration.

The two volume controls have been cleaned but are still a bit noisy. I did not replace them because a lot of folks like their amp to be as original as possible. The tone control is intermittent.

The amp sounds really good. You can go from "big tubey clean" to overdriven madness. This could be your new secret weapon.
