BD-TH Preamp (white knob) | The Sound of Justice FX

Who doesn’t love what a good  preamp can do for your guitar? It can be an EQ corrector, a volume boost, bring warmth, add a little gain or crunch or push it into distorted fuzz territory. The BD-TH does it all.

Based on a popular preamp, this is an expansion of my “Son of Ben” pedal. I have built so many of these that I decided I wanted to expand its capabilities while keeping the iconic sound intact. The lows are a little tighter, the treble is a little crisper, there are foot switchable dual gain controls and a VOICE control to offer a lot of tone exploration. Plus, if  you loved that popular preamp just the way it was, there’s an internal control to bring back the classic EQ, set VOICE Toggle to position 1 and enjoy the foot switchable dual gain knobs.

DUAL GAIN KNOBS.

Use the LEFT foot switch to toggle between Gain A and Gain B. This is so handy that a separate boost pedal is not needed. Effect active LED is center, between the two foot switches. 

GAIN SETTINGS.

The gain control is actually adjusting how much of your signal is going through the gain stages. If you’re not loud enough, raise the gain levels. The gain levels are important when using VOICE 2 with extreme left or right positions on the VOICE KNOB. Gain and VOICE controls will be very interactive with each other.

INTERNAL EQ DIP SWITCH.

Open the back and gently move the internal dip switch to ON (up) to bring back the classic EQ range. Use a non magnetic screwdriver… gently.

POWER. 9-12Vdc

9v sounds great… 12vdc sounds GREATER! You can go up to 18v but it sounds worse past 12vdc. I chose to design it for 9vdc to keep the original sound easily available but 12vdc is incredible!.

VOICE TOGGLE.

Position 1 is the classic preamp range. Position 2 is for the adventurous and experimental player.

VOICE KNOB.

Knob is useable in Toggle Position 2. Start at noon. Slowly turn left and you’ll hear it get hotter, to fuzzier, to broken, to cleaner then to nothing. Slowly turn right (from noon) and it will begin to sound cleaner and the EQ will shift as well. You can get some amazing cleaner preamp gain tones in this range. Feel free to push the gain controls for this to get some very alive and forward gain sounds. [ NOTE ] fully CW and fully CCW there will be little to no output; as the VOICE knob is turned it will crackle and have some dropouts. I worked really hard to make the range as smooth as possible.
