Steve Ferrone's Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, 1977 Slingerland Radio King "Jamo Special" 5x14" Snare Drum. Custom Made by Paul Jamieson.

There are bad asses, and there are BAD ASSES!! Steve Ferrone would be the later.
In the world of "first call” drummers, Steve Ferrone is the first one they call. Just ask Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, George Harrison, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Rick James, Slash, Chaka Khan, Bee Gees, Al Jarreau, Mick Jagger or Johnny Cash. When iconic bands like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Average White Band, Duran Duran and Aerosmith needed to replace their “irreplaceable” drummers, Steve Ferrone was the guy who stepped up.
Steve played a lot of drums throughout his career and he's saved almost every one of them. He has drums from Ludwig, Pearl, DW, Gretsch, Rogers and more. Some are custom made, some are rare prototypes, all are stellar drums. Nothing made it into his collection unless it was exceptional.
Steve is thinning down his collection to just the drums he needs for his current gig with Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs, and his steady stream of session dates. Steve’s collection is being offered for sale, hoping these drums find buyers who appreciate their history and continue making great music with them.

Paul "Jamo" Jamieson began working as a drum tech in the exploding Los Angeles recording scene in the mid-1970s. He worked closely dozens of A-list drummers including Jeff Porcaro, Steve Smith, Tony Williams, Mick Fleetwood, Steven Adler, Phil Collins, Alex Van Halen, Steve Jordan and David Garibaldi. Jamo's "hot-rodded" Slingerland Radio King snare drums that became known as "Jamo Specials", were the "studio secret weapon" of the top players who were lucky enough to get their hands on one. The drum started out with a vintage Slingerland Radio King shell. Jamo stripped the original wrapped finish and repainted the shell. He then recut the bearing edges to 45 degrees, added cast Gretsch hoops and a modern throw off. Suffice it to say, Jamo and his drums made a huge impact on the drum and music world and his influence will be felt for decades to come.

This 5x14" Jamo Special snare drum is one of the very first he ever made. He built it for Steve Ferrone on February 21, 1977. Steve used the snare extensively in recordings from 1977 through the 1990s. The drum shows obvious signs of use but we left it exactly as we received it from Steve. The drum remains in 100% functional condition with no issues. This drum is dripping with history and vibe!!

The shell of the drum is signed by Paul "Jamo" Jamieson. Steve Ferrone signed the batter head.

A certificate of authenticity signed by Steve Ferrone is included.
