1973 Engelhardt EC-1 (Vintage, Kay/EngelKay)

If you are looking for an old American upright bass with some mojo, this one is it. This bass has seen some things. This is certainly players grade and will never be a showroom queen. Only reason I'm selling this is because I just recently got another laminate bass and I don't need to keep both.

The endpin has been replaced with a modern end pin setup and the tailpiece wire has been replaced with a more modern style but the original has been retained. The tailpiece also has a Kay styled decal on it that says "Okay."

This bass is currently strung with Superior Bass Works "Dirty Gut" Deluxe Strings ("synthetic gut" – nylon/kevlar construction to simulate the tone and feel of natural gut strings.) For an extra $250 I'll install some real gut strings on there, just send me a message and we can work that out.

This bass is an Englehardt made shortly after their purchase of Kay. Some describe this era of Englehardt as EngelKays because they are basically Kays in everything but the sticker inside. However, you can save some money because there is "the power of a sticker”. If this bass had a Kay sticker, the price would most certainly be at least a thousand dollars more.
