Martin / 1970 D-45
"Only 81 D-45s were produced"
From late 1969 to 1970, the Brazilian rosewood used for the sides and back was changed to Indian rosewood due to the Washington Convention (CITES).
In particular, only 81 D-45s were produced in 1970.
Among them, a D-45 in such beautiful condition as this one is extremely rare.
—Beautiful Straight-Grained Indian Rosewood
The sides and back are made of Indian rosewood, and despite being a transitional period for wood selection, the rosewood boasts a beautiful brown contrast and straight grain.
This is also a special D-45 model, suggesting the selection of high-quality materials.
The sides and back are adorned with white celluloid and abalone shell inlays.
The intricate inlay work showcases the high skill of the craftsman.
Back Strip
Features the multi-color design unique to the D-45.
The colorful lines beautifully complement the straight grain of the rosewood.
Top
The top is made of fine-grained, rare German spruce.
The body is adorned with white celluloid and beautifully shimmering abalone shell purfling.
Pickguard
While a black pickguard is standard, this instrument has been replaced with a tortoiseshell pickguard.
It's a very atmospheric material, allowing the wood grain and soundhole ring to show through.
-Soundhole
The soundhole is surrounded by white and black rings, as well as an abalone shell rosette.
Fingerboard
The fingerboard, adorned with white binding, is made of ebony, and abalone shell hexagon inlays illuminate the jet-black fingerboard.
Neck
The mahogany neck, with its moderate thickness, is finished in a gentle V-shape.
A volute has also been carefully applied to maintain its strength.
Bridge
The ebony downbelly bridge is fitted with a short saddle.
The white bridge pins have been replaced with ivoroid pins.
The pins, with their beautiful, distinctive patterns, are adorned with abalone dots.
-Headstock
As a remnant of previous years, the use of Brazilian rosewood veneer is a feature unique to this period.
The headstock shape also changed from a rounded shape to a more angular shape around this time.
-Vertical Logo
The C.F. Martin logo, commonly known as the "vertical logo," features a thin "M" and a distinctive "R" font.
After 1970, a thicker "M" font became more common.
-Tuning Machines
Equipped with GROVER 102 tuning machines with the PAT stamp.
The slotted screws on the side of the knobs are a characteristic of GROVER tuning machines used in the 1970s.
The 4th string tuning peg has been replaced with one with a longer post (also with the PAT stamp).
Furthermore, the PAT stamps on the 1st-3rd and 5th-6th strings are on the inside, but the stamp on the 4th string tuning peg is on the outside, confirming that it has been replaced.
[Comment from the person in charge: Hoshino]
This particular instrument features characteristics seen up to the 1970s, such as changes in wood specifications and logo font. Furthermore, despite its limited production run of only 81 units, this instrument boasts exceptional condition for its age, making it a rare find and highly sought after.
Don't miss this valuable opportunity!
