Claudio Pagelli “Wall Paper” – One-of-a-Kind Prototype Acoustic Guitar (2002)

This extraordinary one-of-a-kind acoustic guitar by Swiss master luthier Claudio Pagelli represents an important moment in Pagelli’s design history.

The guitar, titled “Wall Paper,” was inspired by graphic wallpaper patterns from the 1950s, translating mid-century modern design into a striking acoustic instrument.

More importantly, this guitar is historically significant within Pagelli’s work.

It is the first acoustic guitar Claudio Pagelli built using shifted body proportions, an experimental design concept that later evolved into his celebrated anniversary models and ergonomic body designs. After building this instrument, Pagelli discovered that reversing the orientation of the shifted lower bout made the guitar even more comfortable to play. That insight eventually led to later Pagelli models and has since influenced other builders.

Because of this, the “Wall Paper” guitar represents both a functional musical instrument and a pivotal design experiment in Pagelli’s career.

Premium Tonewoods

The guitar is built with exceptional tonewoods selected by Pagelli.

Swiss moonspruce top
Brazilian rosewood back and sides
100+ year old Spanish cedar neck
Rosewood fingerboard and Figured maple bridge

Brazilian rosewood is among the most sought-after tonewoods ever used in guitar construction and is rarely seen on modern instruments.

The moonspruce top provides exceptional clarity, responsiveness, and dynamic range.

Design

The guitar’s unique visual design reflects its 1950s wallpaper inspiration, with flowing graphic lines and geometric accents across the soundboard.

The shifted proportions of the body create a distinctive silhouette while foreshadowing Pagelli’s later ergonomic guitar designs.

This instrument is both functional art and a serious performance guitar.

Professional Setup

The guitar has just been professionally serviced by a luthier and received:

• full inspection
• setup and adjustment
• fingerboard cleaning and conditioning
• fresh strings

It is playing beautifully and ready for its next owner.

Condition

Excellent condition overall and carefully maintained.
