1939 Gibson L-5 “Premier”.

Very Good Overall Condition (See All Listing Photos)

Beautiful Original Sunburst Finish Is In Very Good Overall Condition. There Is A Repaired Top Crack That Extends Into The Top From The Base Of The Fingerboard And A Small Crack At The Bass Side F-Hole. There Is Also A Bit Of Discoloration On The Top From The Original Celluloid Pickguard Material Having Decomposed. There Does Not Appear To Be Any Overspray Or Added Finish And Other Than These Imperfections The Guitar Is In Beautiful Original Condition (See Photos).

This Is A Very Early Production 1939 L-5P And Is One Of The First Cutaway Guitars Ever Made With Serial # EA-5555 On The Back Of The Headstock And The Interior Label.

All Parts Are Original Except The Replacement Pickguard And Bracket Including The Grover Imperial Tuners, The Wide-Bevel Truss Rod Cover, The Bridge, And The Early “Patent Applied For” Tailpiece.

The Original Frets Are In Excellent Condition With No Pitting, Divots, Or Playing Issues.

Set Up With Very Low Action Measuring 2.5mm/2mm At The 12th Fret Bass Side/Treble Side, It Fingers With Ease And Is Effortless To Play.

The Neck Is A Lovely “C” Profile That Is Full, But Not Huge With The Depth Measuring .90” At the 1st Fret And 1.05 At the 10th.

Sonically, The Early L-5P’s Have More Sustain And A Somewhat Fuller Sound Than Later Models Due To The Non-Cantilever Neck Design Where The Fingerboard Attached Directly To The Top. This One Is A Good Example Of That Having A Rich, Full Tone With Strong Low End As Well As Cutting Mids And Excellent Sustain. A Video Has Been Attached To This Listing So You May See And Hear It Played.

Full 1&11/16” Nut Width (1.68”).

The Original Tweed Airline Case Is Intact Excellent Condition With All Latches And Hinges Functioning Without Issue.
