Down South Guitars's newest vintage strat single is the "Church Bell." This design is based on a 1955 strat recipe that I got a hold of and is slightly modified for a more modern-sounding tone. Hand wound with big bass end, crispy mids, and bright treble is the tonal profile of this masterpiece. Despite the lower-than-average ohms reading of 5.8K, I assure you this thing sounds HUGE, especially in the neck position. Quite aggressive, more aggressive sound than a real '55, and much more usable in a modern setting, yet still retaining the sparkly, bright highs we all crave with no shortage of the bell-like tone so many of us guitarists are looking for. Bright, smooth, and large, charge right into the lead with the "Church Bell!" Great in the neck position, cool in the middle position, might be a bit bright in the bridge. I wouldn't recommend for the bridge position, but killer in the neck and middle. Open, bassy, and cuts!
