1962 Epiphone Grenada E444T Never Played This guitar is part of a collection I have on consignment. The owner says it was never played, the original hangtag is still attached, the original cord style "strap" is in the storage box of the case and the original case, in great shape, is included. There is even the original packing tissue paper that wrapped the guitar.

I had everything checked out and my luthier said he has never seen a guitar this age in this good condition in over 40 years. He said it belongs in a museum or in the hands of a collector.

There is no crazing in the finish, a few minor swirls from case wear, no checking in the wood. Neck is straight, frets are like new, nickel tailpiece is bright and clean, tuners are as new. The electronics are excellent, clean and noise free, pick up is a Melody Maker style- single bar magnet (very strong) and tone and volume controls are very responsive. Plays nice and clean at 3 and is breaking up into a fuzz at 10. Like many hollow body guitars, holding an E note on this particular guitar sets off outrageous harmonics and it takes off like a rocket.

There are some cracks in the plastic pickguard/electronics housing on the neck end as shown in pictures. Luthier stabilized them from the backside when he had things apart. Other than that, this guitar is showroom fresh.

During this era, Epiphones were built side by side with Gibsons in Kalamazoo, and the build quality is identical. I can't say it with certainty, but due to the outstanding condition, this guitar is probably truly one of a kind. Serial numbers in this period are unfortunately not reliable for dating. This was dated by comparing to other known E444Ts and it looks like the serial number aligns with other known 1962s.

While this is being described as a collector, it really can be played. It lends itself to rock, blues and is really strong with jazz tones, there is a genuine richness to the tone characteristic of the era.
