It just so happens that our shop loves these Blackface Deluxe Reverb amps! We are excited to present to you another 1967 Deluxe Reverb in great condition and perfect working order. This one includes its original amp cover! It is no wonder why it is widely considered to be one of the greatest tube amps of all time. Like out other example, this Deluxe Reverb was produced late 1966 and finally left the factory in the summer 1967.
As you can see, this amp has been updated with a three prong electric cord for safety purposes and has also been updated with two additional pots in the back of the chassis (for volume and presence). These additions are helpful for the gigging musician, but can be easily removed by the buyer without hurting the circuit. The amp has a sweet, balanced sound that delivers the top end sparkle and clarity characteristic of the best amps from Fender's Black Panel era. This amp is very responsive to playing dynamics, working as an ideal platform for effects pedals. And while the treble response can cut with the best, there's a smoothness to the top end that keeps the amp from ever sounding harsh. Turning up past 4 on the Volume dial, the amp begins to push into overdrive territory with light compression and plenty of rich, sizzling bark. The Reverb is lush, with long decay, and the Tremolo has a strong pulse with an almost three-dimensional quality to the effect when dialing up the intensity.
This amp has been serviced as needed for optimal performance and reliability. The original Schumacher transformers all have 1966 to 1967 dates which match its September stamp number "QH". The power transformer dates to the 7th week of 1966; the output transformer dates to the 46th week of 1966; the choke dates to the 14th week of 1966; and the reverb driver dates to the 18th week of 1967. The vintage speaker is a period correct Oxford. The tube chart is intact, and the "QH" stamp translates to September of '67. Though this amp runs 6V6 power tubes, at some point someone seems to have mistakenly written "6L6" on the tube chart. Nonetheless, our techs have gone through this amp and gave us a great bill of health on the transformers and the rest of the circuit. We have always run this amp with 6V6 tubes. The serial number on the chassis reads A22565 substantiating a late summer of 1967 manufacturing date. The amp retains its original (and clean) smooth black tolex, and the original baffle also retains its original silver sparkle grill cloth. All the original hardware is present including the corners, tail logo, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet). The original owner also added tiltback legs that also help this amp liven up any stage. The early "Fender Musical Instruments" faceplate retains its full complement of "snowman 8" witch hat knobs.
An absolute must have option for recording. I would highly encourage using a BrownBox or similar voltage reducer to protect this amp from the modern wall voltages. It truly preserves the tone and ensures the life of the components. The rarity of this early model make this one a great find. Please view my other listings for more vintage Fender amps.
