Vintage AKAI GX-1820D Reel to Reel & 8-Track Stereo Tape Recorder.

Unit powers on and has been tested for basic functions.

Working Notes

• Plays reel tape
• Auto-reverse working (see note below)
• 8-track cartridge function responds
• VU meters working
• Rewind / Fast Forward working

When reel tape reaches the end, unit stops automatically and goes into pause mode.
To continue playback, pause must be disengaged manually.

Auto-reverse works when reel is operating.
Important: For auto-reverse to function correctly during reel playback, 8-track cartridge must NOT be inserted.
This model uses a single main motor. Since 8-track operates in one direction only, cartridge should not be installed during reel auto-reverse operation.

Speed selector directly controls motor speed.
Because of this, reel and 8-track may not record/play at identical speed settings.
Correct speed must be selected depending on format.
