Power supply included.
There is a 12AX7 inside the pedal and runs at high voltage (around 260 VDC).
The Alexander is a custom design that is basically a Dumble ODS overdrive for front of amp use.
It features a carefully tuned JFET circuit that pushes the first 12ax7 tube stage, which then cascades into the second 12ax7 stage to produce excellent edge of breakup tones, through mild overdrive and up to relatively saturated tones.
It is very similar to the overdrive channel of the Juggler V3 set to front of amp mode, although it works better than the Juggler in this role.
The tone of the Alexander is not exactly the same as that of the Juggler's Drive channel, but if anything it is more versatile as an OD pedal and I feel it sounds even better for this specific role.
It has controls for Drive, Volume, Highs and Lows, as well as a 3-way Mode switch for 3 tonal responses, as well as a footswitch mid boost.
The Mode switch has a normal mode (central position) which is the most transparent/open, an upper mid boost/lows cut mode.
The Highs control is post drive and rolls off top end as it is turned down.
The Lows pot is a pre-drive bass control and as such the amount of overdrive on tap increases as this pot is turned up.
One thing to note is that the foot switch Mid Boost won't have much effect when in Mode 3, it is more designed to be used when in Modes 1 or 2.
Mode 3 is an upper mid boost (for a little more gain and mid hump), while the foot switch Mid Boost is a slightly lower frequency mid boost.
In addition there is a footswitchable lower Mid Boost that was designed for Mode 2 primarily.
The idea is that you can set the Alexander for a clear and open sounding base OD sound in Mode 2, suitable for rhythm parts or chordal work and then step on the Mid Boost foot switch for a fatter and slightly gainier lead tone.
This is Kingsley's take on a Front-of-Amp Dumble overdrive pedal, a sort of FOA/streamlined version of the Juggler.Sounds amazing and has footswitchable midboost.
The Alexander has 3 Modes: low gain, normal and an upper mid boost.
Besides the more common controls the miniswitch's modes are:
Mode 1 - lower gain mode has a slightly darker, smooth tonal response.
Mode 2 - normal mode increases the gain and has a more open and clear response with more top end on tap.
Mode 3 - upper mid boost produces a bit more gain still and a tighter, leaner response.
