I bought the Wooly Coates MKII+ with Boost switch and am very happy with it! However, I just have not really used it since I play mainly my acoustic. There is no point in keeping it. It has not left my home. I have the original 3rd Power Wooly Coates Shipping box. It has never left my smoke free home.
What Do We Think Found on the Internet: The 3-band EQ is straightforward, traveling through the eras of Fender-inspired tones and balancing the voicings of different guitars and pickups with ease. A cut in the mid EQ brings you towards Blackface, while a bump starts to go Brownface and brings on earlier breakup. We’ll refrain from stating a direct Tweed comparison simply for the fact that this amp stays bold and controlled even with the delicious breakup you experience approaching noon and above on the volume dial.
The Boost switch puts the power of the amp at your fingertips, absolutely delightful for the savvy player who wants to work magic from the knobs on the guitar and the nuances of pick attack. We were also excited to find that the EQ section retains a degree of control when the Boost is enabled. This allowed us to dial in AC- and Matchless-inspired tones by cutting the bass and diming the mids and trebles. Cranking those knobs the other direction procured glorious, creamy overdrives.
The High Frequency Damping is just the tool to put a little cushion on your top end when you don’t want to slice your entire high EQ band. It’s a more light-handed approach that goes a long way. The Hybrid Master grants you control of the amp’s level without choking the feel and bloom. In fact, it does so better than any other power scaling we’ve had the pleasure of working with and allows the EQ controls and volume controls to act naturally at all levels.
And yes, the amp also has a lush tube-driven spring reverb! Lower settings keep it fresh and “out of the way,” adding depth without becoming the focus of attention. But it is also capable of entering much wetter, surfier territory when called upon.
