Overview

This is a mid-century Hawaiian soprano ukulele from Kamaka’s Kapalai line, hand made in Hawaii during the postwar period. The instrument bears the original interior stamp “Hand Made in Hawaii by Takamori” and includes unusually strong local provenance, having been purchased new and owned in Kāneʻohe, Oʻahu.

Authenticity & Maker

The interior stamp reads:

KAPALAI UKE

HAND MADE IN HAWAII

BY TAKAMORI

Takamori was a mid-20th-century Hawaiian craftsman active in Kāneʻohe, whose work appeared under Kamaka’s Kapalai line during the post-World War II period. This stamp firmly places the instrument within authentic mid-century Hawaiian production.
The Kapalai interior stamp includes “EST. 1954,” placing this ukulele’s production in the mid-1950s or later, during the gold-label era.

Provenance

This ukulele was inherited from the original owner. A handwritten ownership note inside the original case identifies Margaret Yap of Kāneʻohe (Duncan Drive), indicating the instrument was purchased new and owned locally.

This provenance aligns directly with the Takamori interior stamp and further supports its local Hawaiian origin and mid-century date. The original case and handwritten note are included with the instrument.
