Up for sale is a beautiful example of Conn’s finest professional cornet from the golden era of American band instruments. This Conn Conqueror, serial number 85283, dates to approximately 1904, built in Elkhart, Indiana at the height of Conn’s craftsmanship.
Features & Highlights
- Original silver plate with honest patina — no evidence of replating
- Deep, ornate hand engraving with the full CONN‑QUEROR / C.G. CONN / MAKER / ELKHART, IND. cartouche
- “Exchanged for a Buescher” trade‑in stamp above the engraving — a rare and interesting historical detail
- Mother‑of‑pearl valve buttons, consistent with Conn’s top‑grade finishes
- Valves present and functional
- Two period mouthpieces included
- Extra crooks/slides included (likely from a different instrument, probably carried over during the original trade‑in)
- Vintage H.N. White/King case included — not original to the horn but fits well and protects the instrument
Condition
Very good for a 120‑year‑old professional cornet. Silver plating shows natural age and character. The horn has dings and dents, including a dent on the lower portion of the bell, but nothing structural or severe. Valves and all slides move freely. Engraving remains crisp and attractive.
Notes
This is a serious collector’s piece, a wonderful display instrument, and a strong example of Conn’s early professional line. Purchased from an estate and offered as found.
Shipping
Buyer pays actual shipping. I can ship with the King case or without the case if you prefer lighter/cheaper shipping. Happy to provide additional photos or answer questions.
