TASCAM 58-OB, the formidable 1/2" 8-track recorder that defined countless project and commercial studios throughout the late analog era. This is a professional-format multitrack machine built around TASCAM’s rugged transport, F-V capstan system, and full 8-channel discrete architecture.

Unit has undergone a comprehensive restoration (work completed 14 June 2026) including a complete mechanical as well as electrical service. All solder joints on channel card motherboard had original solder removed and fresh SN60/40 solder used. Channel cards were also reflowed and all trimmers cleaned. Heads were gently recrowned and polished, have 85%+ life left and will tolerate at least 1 total relap. Tape path and reel tables re-aligned and all moving parts properly lubricated. 

Unit received complete record/playback electrical and mechanical alignment per service manual. Record playback is flat (+/- 1.5dB) to 20kHz on all tracks. Unit is calibrated to the 320nW(+6) professional standard, higher than the consumer 250nW reference, reflecting the machine's intended high-headroom studio application. (Please see video link for demonstration). 0dB on VU corresponds to -10dBV(.3VAC) at output. it is calibrated for unity gain print which makes it ideal as a tracking print or bounce down machine in a recording studio environment. Biased for SM911 formula. Mechanically sound and quiet during operation and comprehensive service guarantees trouble free operation.
