1943 Martin 00-18 – a small guitar with a big sound! This guitar sounds fantastic: very warm, with great depth and sparkle, despite its small size. It is well-suited for flatpicking and fingerstyle playing, and great in the studio.The sound and feel of a vintage Martin with scalloped bracing and an Adirondack spruce top remain something special; they simply offer superior dynamics, depth, and responsiveness. The nut width is 1 11/16 inches, which was standard for that era. It has undergone several repairs over the years: a refinish; refret; replacement of the pickguard and logo on the headstock; regluing of some braces; repair of a crack in the upper bout (treble side near the neck); a thin, narrow wood patch applied to the underside of the top (bass side); and replacement of the tuners with Waverlys. There are some signs of use here and there, but overall, the guitar is in very good condition.The 2026 Vintage Guitar Price Guide estimates the value of a 1943 00-18 at $16,000 to $22,000 (in good condition). This is therefore a fantastic opportunity to acquire that coveted "pre-war" tone on a relatively modest budget!
