This is a Vintage ARP Axxe MK1 Analog Synthesizer in good condition.

Perfect for collectors or musicians seeking authentic vintage analog monophonic synthesizer sounds with reliable performance.

ARP synthesizers were used extensively in the 70's by a variety of artists (Zawinul, Hancock, Duke, Wonder, Banks, Townshend, Bowie, Kraftwerk and many others).

Specifically, the ARP Axxe was employed by Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Howard Leese and others.

The Axxe was often used in the late 70s for bass lines, lead lines, and sound effects due to its single VCO, VCF, LFO, and, on later models, Proportional Pitch Control (PPC) buttons. It was considered a competitor to the Minimoog for musicians needing a compact, portable monophonic synthesizer.

Condition:

This is a used unit.

Please review all photos and video clips.

Physically, the keyboard is in good condition showing some common signs of use and age.

All keys and sliders are functional, but a few of the sliders could certainly use some cleaning, as they occasionally cause some contact/static noise when moved during playing.

This model has the single PPC (Proportional Pitch Control) Pad rather than the later version rotary knob or 3 pad setup of the MKII.

Some paint chipping, small dings and scratches.

The majority of the color slider caps are missing.

The right wood side panel is chipped off at the top (as many of these old warriors are).

There is no exterior case included.

Overall it is a nice piece and in reasonably good condition for a machine released 50+ years ago (1975)!

Please inspect all photos and watch video clips to verify:

1) Functionality (apologies for the lousy phone recording quality and complete absence of Rick Wakeman or anyone that can play)

-See appended video clip

and then,

2) to see/hear how it actually sounds when played by someone that knows how to play, manipulate and properly record.

Overview and specs:

The ARP Axxe Mk1 (1975) is a compact, single-oscillator monophonic analog synthesizer, a budget-friendly version of the Odyssey with classic black and gold cosmetics and wooden sides, known for its versatile, gnarly ARP sound despite its simplicity, featuring sawtooth/square waves, PWM, LFO, ADSR, Sample & Hold, and CV/Gate I/O, producing deep basses, leads, and sci-fi effects.

Key Features:

Sound Engine: Single Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) with sawtooth and square/pulse waves, plus noise.

Waveform Shaping: Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) on the square wave, controllable by LFO or ADSR.

Filter: A 24dB/octave low-pass Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF) with resonance, capable of self-oscillation (acting as a sine wave oscillator).

Modulation: One Low Frequency Oscillator (LFO) (sine/square) and one ADSR envelope generator (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) for VCF, VCA, and PWM.

Performance: Portamento, Auto-Repeat function, Sample & Hold, and Keyboard CV for filter tracking.

Connectivity: CV/Gate/Trigger I/O for interfacing with other synths.

Appearance: Black face with gold lettering and real wood end panels.

Affordable Odyssey Sound: It offers the signature ARP sound but in a simpler, more accessible package, great for basslines, leads, and experimental effects.

Unique Character: Its single oscillator design and specific filter/modulation options give it a distinct, "gnarly" character, making it a favorite for unique sounds.

Interoperability: The CV/Gate connections make it a useful addition to modular setups.
