Please note, this pedal is sold fully working but without box and manual. Casing shows typical wear and tear of a forty-year old pedal that has been frequently used. The DEPTH knob has a slight chip on its top edge, and there is evidence of an amateur touch-up job on the paint. None of this affects the pedals functionality. Internals and mechanical parts are in excellent condition. Please see pics.

The Boss CE-3 is a piece of Boss history. It was the first pedal in the Compact series to feature stereo outs, and also the only pedal ever Boss ever made with three knobs in a row (this was changed later because the middle knob blocked the LED–a rare design fail from Boss!).

The pedal features the same MN3207 BBD chip + MN3102 clock driver: the same as used by the Way Huge Blue Hippo, JAM Pedals Waterfall, and the new Boss CE-2W Waza Craft Chorus. It's a classic combination for analog chorus effects.

This pedal has a few neat tricks up its sleeve. The first is obviously its stereo out capability, allowing you to use it in a wet/dry rig setup. The second is its ability to ape bubbly VB-2-esque pitch vibrato sounds by using the wet output only in stereo mode. The third, and perhaps the coolest by far, is being able to output the chorus effect in phase or out of phase with your direct sound when running in mono, depending on which output you use. Personally, I like to run it in mono, but use output B for a spacier effect. People have described the sound as metallic or harsh; this particular unit has a warm and chewy chorus sound, making it a worthy successor to the fabled and short-lived CE-2.

Plenty of pros used it in their live rigs in the 80's, thanks to its stereo capabilities: Gary Moore, George Lynch, Andy Summers, Elliot Easton and even Jaco Pastorius on his bass. David Gilmour had two in his live rig for the 1984 About Face tour. More modern users include Mike Kerr from Royal Blood, Jay Watson from Tame Impala, John Scofield, Dominic Miller, and Ryan Adams.
