Remo Roto-Tom 16” – 1980s Vintage – Great shape, great sound!
We’ve stumbled upon a vintage Remo 16” Roto-Tom in extra-good-to-excellent condition.
This is the real deal – not one of those cheap reissues or “B-line” knockoffs.
This 16” monster's sound matches its size. It has an impressive sonic scope: tom-tom/floor tom, timbale, a poor-man's timpani, even a mini-gong drum. (The previous owner used it as a "bodhán-tom" in a Celtic group.) Check out the video for a sample.
At over 40 years old, this Roto looks pretty damn good! I am happy to report:
• No mechanical issues – tunes up and down with ease.
• Frames are free of cracks or other stress-related nonsense.
• Newer tension screws – all original tension screws were replaced in the early 2010s, each w/ steel and synthetic washers for tight tuning and rattle-free play.
• Power Hoop – A 2.3mm power hoop has replaced the flimsy Remo hoop.
• Center rod and Remo handle are in excellent shape.
• Relatively new Remo Coated Pinstripe batter head.
Expect minor scuff/scratches and the odd frame discoloration as one would expect from four decades of respectful play.
BIG sound no standard tom could ever reproduce. Wide tuning range – from dry, punchy spanks to sharp, stinging shots.
No longer made (and sadly, not likely to be ever again). Increasingly hard to find, especially in this condition.
