Overview:

Classic tone with modern convenience! The RM '65 is a modded version of the classic Dallas Rangemaster, using a new old stock germanium transistor. Transistors used vary from unit to unit and are all unused transistors from approximately the 1960s. Unit pictured has a Soviet ГT402 (GT402) transistor. The pedal uses a PNP germanium transistor in a positive ground circuit, like the original vintage units. But since it also uses a charge pump to create a source of -9 volts within the circuit, it can be powered with a center negative power supply (standard for guitar pedals, not included) and even daisy chained with other pedals without creating issues.

Note: Like many vintage boost and fuzz pedals, the RM' 65 is sensitive to impedance. For this reason it will sound best when placed first in the effects chain, immediately after the guitar. Let your ears be the judge, but this is the traditional placement.

Controls:

• Boost Level (not labeled - the only exterior knob) is the overall output. This also affects the level of clipping/distortion produced.

• Range (three way switch) allows you to select between three input capacitors, which controls the cutoff frequency of a high pass filter and has a significant effect on overall tone.

• You will also notice a blue trimpot inside the pedal. This was used when building the pedal to calibrate the bias point of the transistor to adjust for the characteristics of the individual components (gain of the transistor, actual vs. nominal values of resistors, etc.). The trimpot has already been set to the optimal level and does not require adjustment. You won't break anything by playing with it, but you might want to note the original setting first.
