We are happy to offer a rare opportunity to own a vintage Weissenborn. This Kona model 1 was the entry-level model due to it's minimal cosmetic embellishments, not due to lesser craftsmanship.
This particular example has a Spruce top and Koa back and sides. Spruce tops show up sometimes, but is much more rare than the koa top versions.
This 100 year old instrument has survived the decades in very good condition. It's has a multitude of small dings and scratches and scrapes. There are repaired top cracks on either side of the fretboard. There is some over spray on the back.
The guitar is in great playing condition. Is has a strong, sweet voice. The spruce top adds more volume and attack.
The most often-encountered Weissenborn-made brand is the Kona Hawaiian guitar, marketed by Los Angeles teacher and publisher C.S. DeLano. Although Konas and Weissenborns initially appear very similar, but Konas are narrower across the lower bout (13.25 in. vs. 15.25 in.) and deeper (4 in. vs. 3 in.) than most Weissenborns. Konas have solid round necks that join the body at the seventh fret with an angled joint. Konas have wire frets rather than flush markers. The sound of Konas is generally regarded as equivalent to (though deeper than) Weissenborns.
