The Tao Guitars Disco Volante “Buren” is a collector-grade example of Tao’s semi-hollow design, meticulously hand-built in Brussels, Belgium by John Joveniaux and Serge Michiels. Extremely clean and very well preserved, this guitar presents beautifully and feels every bit as special as its one-off status suggests. The Disco Volante platform blends sculptural European design with the spirit of early electric Spanish guitars, resulting in an instrument that is as inspiring visually as it is musically.

This “Buren” features a two-piece mahogany body paired with a maple top, delivering a warm, resonant foundation with excellent clarity and balance. The semi-hollow construction gives the guitar a lively, blooming acoustic response that carries through effortlessly when amplified. Weighing in at just 7 lbs 4 oz, it’s light, comfortable, and perfectly balanced for long playing sessions.

The neck is crafted from one-piece quartersawn mahogany and topped with an ebony fingerboard and matching ebony headcap. Its medium C profile measures .85” at the first fret and .95” at the twelfth, paired with a 12” radius and a 24 3/4” scale length that adds a slightly slinkier feel and enhanced warmth. The neck feels stable, smooth, and immediately familiar in the hand.

Electronics come from a matched set of Tao-Wound “Double D” humbuckers, custom wound specifically for Tao. Each pickup can be split into a true single coil via its own push-pull control, with no noticeable drop in output. In humbucker mode, they offer the clarity and richness of a vintage PAF with added air and sparkle. In single-coil mode, the tone shifts toward Tele or Strat territory, with an open, airy character that hints at gold-foil textures. Handmade aluminum pickup covers and an ABM custom-designed aluminum wraparound bridge add both visual refinement and a direct, immediate response.

This Disco Volante “Buren” ships with its original certificate of authenticity and custom truss rod tool and stands as a beautifully executed, design-driven instrument from one of the most thoughtful boutique builders working today.
