Gibson / 1964 J-50 ADJ
The crispness of the adjustable saddle matches your stroke perfectly, providing a comfortable playing experience.
It produces a different tone than a slotted saddle, so if you've never experienced an adjustable saddle, I highly recommend giving it a try.
When you think of round shoulders, the J-45 comes to mind, but the J-50, released in 1942, had the same specs as the J-45 but in a natural finish.
However, when placed next to the J-45, it has a different look and appeal.
-Pickguard Change Period
In 1964, the large pickguard was changed from a thin tortoiseshell pattern to a thicker, more reddish pickguard.
The reddish pickguard really stands out against the natural color.
The rounded shoulder body is crafted from spruce and has a natural-colored finish.
The J-50 was added to the lineup as a natural-colored version of the J-45.
Just as the natural-colored version of the J-45's higher-end Southern Jumbo was called the Country Western, Gibson often changes the model name for natural-colored models.
Since 1963, the rosette ring has changed from a single ring to a double ring.
The sides and back are made of mahogany and painted brown to match the color of the top. Until 1960, the color was light walnut, but around 1961 the paint changed to dark walnut.
The fingerboard is made of rosewood and the nut width is approximately 42mm, which is called a regular neck.
The neck is made of mahogany, and the thin neck shape provides a comfortable fit.
There is some paint peeling on the back of the 3rd floor, but it does not catch on your hand and does not interfere with playing.
The rosewood bridge on the upper belly is equipped with adjustable saddles. Unlike slotted saddles, you can raise or lower the string height by turning the flathead screws on both sides.
The bridge plate underneath the bridge is a three-piston design, just like the 1964 J-45.
The bridge plate has also been repaired due to wear from years of use.
This repair is very important, as it affects the strength and tone of the guitar.
The headstock is silkscreened with a gold Gibson modern logo, just like the J-45.
The bell-shaped truss rod cover is 1 piece.
Tuning machines: KLUSON This guitar is equipped with Deluxe single-line triple tuning machines.
In fact, this specification was changed to double-lined ones in 1965, so this was also the last model to feature single-line triple tuning machines.
Like the J-45, the J-50 has undergone several specification changes, but it has been loved by artists including Bob Dylan and James Taylor.
Many people are looking for this model with its adjustable saddles and regular neck.
We hope you'll give this rare instrument a try.
