This Guitar Is Used And Has Some Cosmetic Flaws. P.S. It's 38 Years Old.   The 1988 MIJ Fender Stratocaster with a Kahler tremolo system came in several specific configurations, most notably within the Contemporary and HM (Heavy Metal) series.
  • Models: The most common models were the  ST-562  and other variations within the Contemporary Series, as well as the  HM Strat .
  • Tremolo System: They almost exclusively featured a factory-installed USA-made Kahler Spyder floating tremolo system with a corresponding locking nut. This was a distinctive feature designed for enhanced tuning stability and dive-bombing capabilities.
  • Body Wood: Sources indicate the body was often made of basswood.
  • Neck and Fretboard: The neck was typically maple, with options for either a maple or rosewood fretboard.
  • Frets: The  HM Strat  models had 24 frets, a significant departure from traditional Stratocasters. Other Contemporary models might have had fewer frets.
  • Hardware: The hardware was generally black or chrome, and the guitars came with Gotoh tuners.
  • Pickup Configuration: Several pickup configurations were available, including:
    • HSS: One humbucker and two single-coil pickups.
    • HH: Two humbuckers.
    • SSS: Three single-coil pickups.
    • Some models, like the  HM Strat Ultra , used noiseless Lace Sensor pickups in later years, but the original 1988 models used standard or DiMarzio pickups.
  • Finish: These guitars were available in a variety of finishes, including Black, Blue, Red, Pink, Olympic White, Candy Apple Red, and Sunburst.
  • Quality: Guitars made in the Fujigen Gakki plant during this era are widely regarded by reviewers for their exceptional build quality and craftsmanship, often considered superior to their US-made counterparts at the time.
