Calrec DL-2638 - Black/grey

This is a racked Stereo Calrec DL-2638 Stereo Compressor Limiter. This series of comp/limiters were some of the models used in the famous M Series Calrec Broadcast/Recording Consoles.These were very hi-end units primarily used as the Stereo Output/Buss Compressors.If you're unfamiliar with the term "2 Buss Limiter", these are used to run the final stereo output of your mix into as you're putting your final mix down. 2 Buss Comp/Limiters have a unique quality to them. They are meant to pull your mix to the front of the speakers and increase the loudness/level you can record your mixes at.The Neve 33609, Alan Smart, Neve 2254E, and The SSL 2 Buss are all examples of what the "2 Buss " family of limiters are.Although the Calrec 2638 was designed for this purpose, it also makes for a great all around Comp/Limiter for any other recording application. Using variations of both the Compressor and Limiter controls you can also do some very radical "Nuclear Squash" type techniques.. These M series consoles/products were used in Studios around the world as well as very heavily in The BBC's facilities worldwide. The M series was Calrecs competitor to the Neve 8100 and early "V" Series consoles and products. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Neve and Calrec have been each others strongest rivals since the early days of Solid State Recording. Although not as well known in America these two companies have been on an even par since they began fighting neck and neck for the BBC network contracts many decades ago. If you love the sound of Neve/British type recording gear you will love the early Calrec products, which unlike Neve's early gear are still a tremendous buy for the buck.The DL 2638 has a separate Limiter AND Compressor section which give you a wide control over the types of "Squeeze" you want to use. They can do the subtle 2-Mix compression to nuclear over the top Super-Squeeze type effects by combining both sections
