1940 Gibson L7 for sale. I have wanted a solid wood acoustic archtop for years. I looked in shops, tried online and was never able to find the right one until i saw this one. Only after i had found the "perfect" guitar i discovered that i prefer flat tops to the archtop. This guitar is just lovely. It is 80+ years old, sounds great and plays great as well. I just can't seem to love it like it should be loved. I really wish that it wasn't the case, but here we are. It needs to go to a good home where it will be played as often as it should be. The guitar shows it's age obviously, but mechanically, all is well. The action is low, i had to raise it up a bit in fact as it was too low. It was down to just over 2/64ths at the 12th fret and i just couldn't "feel" the strings. Right now the action is just over 3/64ths and it feels much better that way. In all of the vintage archtops that i looked at, this was the only one that did not have the bridge adjusted all of the way down. There is adjustment left in this bridge height. The neck joint is solid and does not appear to have been messed with as far as i can see. There is a small section of the stinger on the back of the headstock that looks like a crack, but it is only the joint between the stinger and the headstock/neck, not a structural crack in the neck itself (pictured). The fretboard has definite signs of wear, but nothing that affected playability as far as i could tell. It has probably been re-fretted at some point along the way, but i can't be sure. Dents and dings, small scratches and missing finish? Yes. Structurally sound and wonderful to play and hear? Also yes! This model has the tapered headstock and a chunky neck, trapezoidal inlays and original pickguard. There is a small section on the back, lower bout where the binding is slightly separated. About 1 1/2" long and the crack between binding and body is minimal. This has been glued and is stable. I currently have Monel strings on it, but i will include a barely used set of Thomastik Infeld strings that are still in good shape, but used for a couple of weeks. The neck is straight as an arrow and though the neck shows signs of decades of use, there appear to be no cracks other than a few in the finish here and there. Will include what appears to be the original case (pictured in background of other photos) that is still in good shape, but i do not have a key for it. This guitar deserves a good home where it can be played and enjoyed for many more years to come. It is impossible to describe every bit of character that this guitar has picked up in it's lifetime so please review the photos carefully as they should be considered as part of the description.
I will ship well packaged and insured. The weight of the guitar and case is not light and i plan to add extra packing materials to this shipment so the shipping cost may be a bit higher than usual, but this one is worth the extra effort and cost.
