Alastair McNeill is recognized as one of England’s top luthiers and has been building classical guitars for more than 40 years. This Hauser inspired guitar is his number 200. The scale is standard 650/52 mm and a 20th fret fretboard design. Original well working Reischl/Landstorfer tuners.
Condition:
I have owned the guitar for the past 15 years or so and there was wear and tear on the finish but is purely aesthetic as nothing has changed in those years. The laquer on the back has ageing and the french polish on the front has been worn in places with a few small deeper marks. The laquer on the sides also has some wear and there is a tiny hairline crack on the lower bout waist caused my a gitano rest but is so small it won't show in a photo and doesn't require repair work. I had some work done to the fretboard with a new bit of rosewood added to improve playability from the relief with better action and custom bone nut and saddle added. This cost around 600 pounds 15 years ago and was done meticulously.
- Please check the pictures carefully!
The guitar plays perfectly and has a slightly larger feel to the neck than stock. The sound is a mature, well rounded sound which is nicely balanced for a variety of musical styles be it romantic or baroque. It has good presence and good sustain.
The price is lowered because of the condition but the playability and sound is worth far more in value.
