The PION combines three classic flavors of drive into a single enclosure: a Fuzz Face-style fuzz, a King of Tone-style overdrive, and an amp-like dirty boost. Built entirely with hand-selected NOS components, this pedal is an incredibly versatile tone-shaping tool that covers a wide variety of drive, gain, and fuzz textures. The signal path runs Fuzz into Overdrive into Boost, creating a massive gain-stacking toolkit. The first stage uses NOS BC183 silicon transistors for a warm, touch-sensitive fuzz that cleans up naturally with your guitar's volume knob. It feeds directly into a transparent overdrive stage powered by a low-noise JRC4580DD op-amp and NOS 1N34A germanium diodes for an extended headroom, compressed breakup. The final stage is a dirty boost built with NOS J201 JFETs that clips early, delivering tube-like breakup and punch. Dedicated toggle switches allow you to independently engage and shape each section.

Running the overdrive after the fuzz restores the low frequencies and body typically lost in a Fuzz Face circuit, keeping your tone thick even when cleaning up. The boost sits last in the chain to either push your amp into natural saturation or get driven into its own rich clipping when you stack the overdrive into it. This specific arrangement combines three distinct eras of component design (BJT, Op-Amp, and JFET) into one interactive system.

The pedal supports standard 9V to 18V DC power. Running it at 18V gives the overdrive and boost circuits more headroom, volume, and clarity, while making the fuzz stage sound a bit rawer with more bite.
