Up for grabs what seems to be an early 1982 G&L S-500 body with a 1984 Skyhawk neck?
Cool fact the S500 began production Feb of 1982 this guitar is dated Feb 18 1982 so it's one of the first S500 ever made!!
It has the aluminum pickguard and rounded G&L pickups which is one of the few difference between the S500 and the Skyhawk.
This guitar has a Washburn Shift 2001 Wonderbar installed. Now I'm not sure it that's factory route or added at some point. On rare occasion the S500 came with a Khaler system from the factory but it's more common on the Skyhawk.. That's why we thought it was a Skyhawk..
So because the neck is dated 1984 we have to assume the body is a super early S500 and the neck is absolutely from a Skyhawk. Again very similar guitars but different models non the less
In any case this guitar is amazing. Very high-end quality built with amazing sounding pickups!!
Neck fits perfectly and goes well with the esthetic of the guitar!
Current setup as a hartail so the wonderbar is not being used. Missing 1 knob plus the claw, block and springs to make this fully functional.
The finish is transparent wine red (think SG) beautiful example of Leo Fenders masterpiece. Finish has some natural checking! Has some dings and wear but very tasteful relic over the years.
Electronics have been clean and tested. Everything works great. Original pickup and electronics!!
Neck is one piece maple with cool checking in the finish. Ebony fretboard!!
Previous owner wrote his name on the body, TOM BRIGHT is what it says is a faded red color. I kinda like it! gives it a cool retro, vintage look to it. Cant really notice till you pay close attention to it.
G&L original pickups sound amazing!! I now see why G&L guitars are a "if you know, you know" thing.
Frets are good but show signs of wear in the first 5 frets. Plays great as is. But you can always bring back the khaler style bridge or do a mod ala Fender Coma strat (look it up super cool)
