For many Gibson purists, the "Shaw" era (1980–1985) represents the pinnacle of Norlin-era craftsmanship. These were the first pickups Gibson engineered to return to the tonal roots of the original 1950s PAF, using unoriented Alnico 5 magnets and specific winding patterns to achieve that "sweet" vintage voice.
