Up for sale is a brand new Seymour Duncan SH-1b '59 Model bridge humbucker. This is Seymour Duncan’s definitive take on the legendary "P.A.F." (Patent Applied For) humbuckers found in the late-1950s Les Pauls. It is widely considered the benchmark for classic, airy, and articulate vintage tone.
The '59 Model is built with period-correct 42AWG plain enamel wire and a long-legged nickel-silver bottom plate to stay true to the original design. However, it features a few modern refinements: it is vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonic squeal at high volumes and utilizes an Alnico 5 magnet for a slightly brighter, more "punchy" response than a traditional Alnico 2. The result is a pickup with a full low end, a slightly scooped midrange for "bloom," and a shimmering top end that sounds just as good clean as it does through a roaring Plexi-style amp.
- Position: Bridge
- Magnet: Alnico 5
- DC Resistance: ~8.2k
- Wiring: 4-Conductor
- Tone: Classic P.A.F. growl; open, airy, and incredibly touch-sensitive.
- Common Pairing: Traditionally paired with the SH-1n '59 Neck for the "Vintage Blues" set, but also works beautifully with a Jazz (SH-2n) in the neck.
