Quality Japan made 8 Track. Re-Fit your Vintage Car with an 8 track player!
Stand alone 8 track Player - has its' own amplifier built-in. Hook to existing speakers, or install speakers. It was made in the early 70's in Japan with quality components. I serviced this unit to present it in fully working condition and it works and sounds great. There are connections for 4 speakers and a "matrix" switch at the front panel to enable the emulation of 4 channel sound - but it will work well with only 2 speakers. This unit features a front panel accessible tracking adjustment wheel.
Working condtion: Fully works, sounds good - some distortion in audio if cranked up - all 4 track indicator lamps work, but there is a burned out lamp to illuminate the entire unit.
Physical condition: good with typical sings of age and use - there are 5 holes in the top plate of this unit from previous mounting, so I de-graded physical condition rating to "Fair". - The heads on this deck show some wear but perform good and are expected to stay that way, if you clean the heads regularly
Work Performed to service this unit to working: replaced the drive belt, lubricated mechanical parts , treated controls with contact cleaner. Full functional test. Physical cleaning and detail work.
For lasting value I do recommend full refurbishment, which aims to replace all capacitors throughout this unit and to replace burned out lamps with LEDs - This I estimate to add $245-$275
Add-on / Modification: I should be able to convert this unit to a Home Player by adding a power supply and to ease speaker hook-up by adding connectors. Also possible to modify for "line" output so that the unit can be integrated with your existing stereo system, or can be used to record from -> INQUIRE
Lot: SSK Vintage Car 8 Track Player serviced to fully working
Price: $125 (serviced to working) -> "add to cart" - or: for full restoration add $245. -> Inquire
A WARNING about 8 Track cartridges: Please TEST each 8 track tape cartridge carefully before inserting it into any 8 track player. 8 track cartridges are vintage and plagued from a variety of age related problems, one of which is most important: A high percentage of 8 Track cartridges have foam backing behind the tape to press the tape against the head. This foam material de-composes into a gooey mess or into a brittle substance - both of which can contaminate the 8 track PLAYER into which a bad cartridge is inserted, rendering it non operable (requiring service on the 8 track player starting at $100! - If a 8 track player purchased from me requires this type of service I have to bill for it!) -> and further more: a contaminated 8 Track Player then can CONTAMINATE still good tape cartridges and render them non playable.
-> 8 Track Cartridge TEST (Test each cartridge before inserting): Push the foam with a finger - it it fully bounces back, then likely the cartridge is still good in this regard - CAUTION if the foam behaves like "memory foam" - that indicates that the foam has de-composed - PLEASE DO NOT USE a cartridge that has: soft, gooey or brittle foam. More info on 8 track tapes on my web site (Reverb does not seem to allow direct links - search for ultraelectronicactive dot com - go to "Tech Answers").
LOOKING for other 8 Track Players? -> stereo or quadraphonic, - or recorders to record your own cartridges for your vintage car? I have: portable 8 track, less expensive 8 track players (!) and various 8 track recorders -> TALK TO ME - I will be glad to help!
Purchase Agreement - All Sales are: "AS-IS”, FINAL - and: not returnable: LET’s do all that is needed to make sure to get you exactly what you need - BEFORE your purchase (Not returnable)! PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS - I am here to assist. All items are used and VINTAGE - sold "AS-IS" (-> vintage = often 50 years old!!!) and even with the best of refurb / repair work STILL CAN FAIL) and thus is sold without warranty or guarantees of any kind (AS-IS). I aim to perform all work that I foresee necessary, to provide equipment in well and reliably working condition - refurbish in as much detail as possible - and test thoroughly, to gain confidence through testing, to predict that it will last, but once work complete, it is still possible that something can go or be wrong with it (vintage) - Prices of items offered here reflect the work that went into a given piece of gear until it is listed, but cannot cover what a given piece may need in the future - that would be at your risk and expense - If there are defects, problems or shortcomings: likely I can repair, but it will be at additional cost - I do service what I sell at my regular shop rate. Any shipping costs responsibility of the buyer.
