This instrument is in excellent condition with no significant cracks beyond the aged finish. The neck is currently straight, maintaining playable string heights: approximately 2.6mm over the 6th string at the 12th fret and 1.7mm over the 1st string at the 12th fret. -D-28 Authentic 1937 Guatemalan Aged-

The Authentic Series represents Martin Guitar's highest grade lineup, dedicated to the theme of ‘complete reproduction’. It meticulously recreates models from each era down to the finest details, striving to revive their sound for the modern era. True to its name, the D-28 Authentic 1937 is based on the 1937 D-28. It features an Adirondack spruce top and sides and back made from Guatemalan rosewood, a wood considered to have tonal characteristics closest to Brazilian rosewood. The neck is crafted from genuine mahogany, while the fingerboard and bridge utilize premium ebony. Less visible features include the simple T-bar rod neck reinforcement, the minimal Vintage Gloss Finish with its thin lacquer coating, and the use of high-precision woodworking combined with animal glue for bonding. The T-bar rod neck, constructed primarily from a single piece of mahogany, delivers a distinct sense of superior sound transmission compared to SQ or AJ necks. Furthermore, the combination of enhanced woodworking precision at the contact points and the characteristics of animal glue, which sets extremely hard at room temperature, results in minimal vibration damping at the glued surfaces. This allows the entire guitar, from body to headstock, to resonate the moment a string is struck. The nut width of approximately 44.5mm, identical to current models, and the thick, soft V-shaped neck provide a grip feel unique to a 1937 instrument. Compared to current models or the 1941-style D-28, the neck is thicker, yet it's precisely this neck that produces a rich, resonant sound—a sensation you can feel tingling through your left hand as you grip it. The tone is clear and refined, yet it features well-separated, coexisting elements: a sticky low end, a full midrange, and crisp, well-defined highs. It's a magnificent sound that allows you to touch the very foundation of Martin's history. The Aged model is an even more meticulously crafted version, deliberately adding play-worn marks and weather checking after building the D-28 Authentic 1937, then manually applying aged finishes to frequently touched areas like the fingerboard and bridge. This aged treatment seems to further enhance the clarity and volume of the sound. Combined with its characterful appearance, difficult to achieve by individuals, it makes for an exceptionally appealing model.
