The Boss DM-2 Delay is a legendary, all-analog guitar effects pedal known for its warm, dark, and organic "bucket brigade" (BBD) delay tone, first introduced in 1981. It was highly sought after after its discontinuation in 1984, leading to the modern, enhanced Waza Craft reissue, the Boss DM-2W. 

Core Features and Sound

The core appeal of the DM-2 lies in its specific all-analog circuitry, which causes the repeats to subtly degrade in quality and lose high frequencies with each repeat, blending them naturally into the original guitar signal, almost like a reverb. This differs significantly from digital delays, which provide pristine, clear repeats. 

• Controls: The original pedal features a simple, effective three-knob layout:
• • Repeat Rate: Controls the time between echoes, ranging from 20 to 300 milliseconds. Adjusting this knob while playing can create unique, "warping" pitch-shifting effects.
  • Echo: Adjusts the volume/level of the delayed sound relative to the dry signal.
  • Intensity: Controls the number of repeats (feedback). Turning it up significantly can cause the pedal to self-oscillate, creating a runaway echo effect.
• Circuitry: It utilizes a premium analog BBD (bucket brigade device) circuit to achieve its characteristic rich, lo-fi sound.
